Karen Pierpoint, MS, Marriage and Family Therapist

Karen Pierpoint received her undergraduate training at the University of Oregon Honors College. She did graduate work at San Diego State University, completing the Masters Degree in Counseling. She served as an adjunct instructor in the Counseling Department at SDSU as well as training in School-Based Family Therapy with the San Diego City Schools. She has been in private practice in Southern California for more than 20 years.

Life Experience

Karen Pierpoint received her "unofficial" training in family dynamics as the eldest child in a blended family of eleven children. She and her husband have been married for more than 40 years, and have raised four children to successful adulthood. For this reason, she is comfortable doing work with families where all family members can be in the consulting room together, working things out and solving problems.

Hard Knocks

She also is skilled at working with individuals. Having had experience in the military, she is particularly sensitive to those who suffer from PTSD after combat. She treats trauma using several modalities, including EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) to help those who have been in situations such as traffic accidents, robberies, or have witnessed other overwhelming events. Those who suffer from depression or anxiety find her both encouraging and calming as she gives assistance from her broad base of life experience.

Spiritual Values

Since spiritual values are important to her, clients will never need to worry that their personal faith base will be attacked during sessions.

Connections

Karen is a Board Certified Expert in Traumatic Stress, and a Diplomate of the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress. She is also a clinical member of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists, the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, the American Association of Christian Counselors, and several other professional groups. Karen Pierpoint has served as a consultant to other therapists throughout her career. She enjoys coming up with creative and enjoyable ways to help people grow and change, and gladly shares these ideas with others in her profession. She is a popular speaker at conferences and workshops, and accepts speaking opportunities as her schedule allows.

Karen Pierpoint belongs to the Better Business Bureau of the Southland and is a member of the Riverside Chamber of Commerce.
